Why is cheap mascara like Mabelline and Loreal so much better than MAC and the other expensive brands???

I have very thin and short lashes and have found that the only mascara that works the best for me is Great lash by Mabelline in the blackest black. But I want to buy a whole make up start up line with nothing but MAC products and have been told their mascaras suck. But why is that???Why is cheap mascara like Mabelline and Loreal so much better than MAC and the other expensive brands???
ive used mac mascara and i'm not too happy with it

the smell is overwhelming, and it usually comes out very clumpy.

mac charges more for its makeup because it offers a wider variety of colors and shades in its eyeshadows, eyeliners, etc.

however, i do really like their eyeliners, they dont smudge or run throughtout the day; but their mascara sucks overallWhy is cheap mascara like Mabelline and Loreal so much better than MAC and the other expensive brands???
MAC, Really is not that bad, i use the mascara and eye liner, and i love it! Although, I think that for foundations and powders there is definitely a difference.. But mascara is one thing you can buy at wallgreens and it works as good as the expensive stuff.
More money does not mean better, it just means more expensive. Why do you think Consumer Reports is still in business? Look at all the people who pay $75 for a $2 T-shirt with a brand name on it. They think price equals fashion.
Different make-up types work for different people. It really just depends on the way you use it and how you like to have it look.
Id like to know too!

I think expensive makeup is all just a placebo; everyone only THINKS its good because we're told that it is, and because it costs more.

The only expensive brands which I find ARE actually worth the extra money are Shiseido and Lancome.

Try Lancome's Hypnose mascara, its amazing ^___^
I agree, although i have pretty long and thick lashes, i find the best one for me is one of the cheapest out there, i dont remember the brand but its not a brush, its a comb instead (and i have tried MAC, Smashbox, etc).... I guess sometimes you dont get what you pay for... and its a good thing too! lol
good question, this is because there is more wax in cheap versions. Its way better to buy mascara from the drug store, but everything else I go to Sephora for.
MAC products, and all other products sold in department stores all come from the same place. They are mostly Loreal products with a different name. I find the best mascara is Voluminous by Loreal. I also use a primer mascara before. It is white and makes lashes thicker before adding the black mascara. You normally find it attached to a black mascara already and says somthing like 3X fuller
all a matter of opinion. thats why there isn't just one mascara sold in the world. there a tons of them, and all of them have fans (even cheap crap like covergirl has fans...) i am a makeup artist and love alot of MAC products, but i favour Loreal Voluminous to any mascara, hands down. its all personal preference.
It's not that MAC mascaras suck, it's just that department store mascaras are by and large no different from drugstore brands. Everyone has the same technology...there are no ';secret'; ingredients one manufacturer has. And when there is a breakthrough (such as the new plastic brushes created by Cover Girl and Max Factor) other brands are quick to copy it.

It all depends on what works for you. I love Maybelline mascaras, but I hate Great Lash. LOL. It works best for you though...and that's all that matters.
