When should I throw out my mascara?

I've had it for 5 months, but the thing is that I only use it every time there is a special occasion, so I've only used it about 3 times (I don't really like wearing make up)


So when should I throw it out, cause I would feel like it's such a waste if I threw it out right now.When should I throw out my mascara?
well as long as u kept it in a cool dark place, you are pretty good for now actually...the less air ur makeup is exposed to the less bacteria and the more preservation there is...you should replace ur mascara every 3 months...as its been 5 months, tossing it would be a good idea when you hitthe 6 month mark. even if it hasn't been opened too many times as bacteria does culture and grow in population overtime...and to solve ur waste problem if u don't use mascara too often, go to sephora or a makeup counter at a Macy's or a Dillard's or a Nordstrom, and get the sample size instead. they are much smaller and probably a bit better for someone who only uses mascara once a month...im saying 6 months is ur toss out date, because that is when the mascara it self is altered if u go past that...always store creamy or liquid products in cool dark dry places as they are always the first to go and you want to extend their life as much as you can.


powders if stored the same way, can be good for up to even 2 to 3 years.


anything oil based though, has 18 months of storage if it is a liquidy type makeup.

Since you use it so rarely, you could probably keep it another month and then toss it. You will get eye infections if you use it for much longer. Plus, it tends to dry out some and start to clump. You might start looking for mini sizes in mascara. I know that some companies do have it. Avon is one that has or did have a mini size one. It wasn't very expensive either, so you won't feel so bad about throwing it out. You could buy a couple of them at least and just save one in case they were to stop making it available. Sealed mascara should last a year or more so if you stock up, you should be safe for a while. If you can't find the mini size and you really don't use mascara much, just go buy a super cheap one so it won't be such a big deal to throw it out after a few months. You can usually find some at dollar stores. Hope this helps!
I believe your mascara is good up to around a year, as long as it's closed tightly after each use. As much as it costs these days (depending on brand) it sure WOULD be a shame if it didnt last at least that long.

i read in a makeup store that you should throw it out every 6 months the makeup person said it will have bactria growing in it after that

well.. most mascaras will live for 3 months and still work well. after 3 months of use, it will start drying up... so usually, every 3 months.

never eep eyewer for more than six months at a stretch...they can damage eyes. so dint spare expense and spoil ur sight
